“Since Costal introduced us to the benefits of Hollodeen cills it has been a no brainer to use this for all of our bi-fold door applications. This works in perfectly with our Accoya products giving us a trouble-free product. We introduce our customers to Hollodeen during our first conversations, giving them the option of a timber cill as well. So far everyone has opted for the Hollodeen. We have even had specially produced sections to cope with triple glazing and plinth brickwork.”

New locking system from Coastal bring practical & visual benefits to French Doors

8th February 2017

Solo Klone French Doors

Coastal has developed a unique solution to the problem of bulky sightlines which are all too prevalent with traditional timber French Doors, whilst at the same time addressing common security challenges.

The new Solo™ and Klone™door locking systems have been created for traditionally designed single and double rebated French doors, and bring a range of benefits including:

  • Saving time on machining
  • One set-up, one block
  • Double rebate hiding all hardware
  • Double gasket providing better weather sealing and acoustic performance
  • Fully tested to UKAS PAS 23: 1999 and PAS 24: 2007
  • 10 Year guarantee
  • Finished in a Silver Bichromate to BS EN 1670: 2007 Grade 4

The Solo™ locking system incorporates a 45mm backset lock mechanism on the master door and a finger flick switch located in the edge of the slave door, operating a shootbolt that fires into the frame head and cill of the slave. The shootbolt locking points lock directly into the opposing slave door lock as does the central deadbolt and latch. This arrangement is ideally suited for door leaves up to 56mm thick.Solo & Klone Case Study Images Law & Lewis of Cambridge Ltd - InsetIt is joined by the Klone™ locking system for double rebated French Doors. The 45mm backset lock mechanism is incorporated onto both the master and slave doors. The shootbolt locking points lock directly into the opposing slave door lock as does the central deadbolt and latch. This arrangement is ideally suited for door leaves up to 58mm thick. Both the Master and Slave Locks have a 20mm wide faceplate for stability and ease of routing, while the reversing mechanism on the slave lock fits neatly into a 16mm eurogroove.

One firm that has really seen the benefits of the new locking systems is Cambridge-based joinery firm Law & Lewis. According to company Director Mark Law, the new Solo™ Double Rebate locking system has saved time and increased quality.

“A lot of our business is creating quality, made to measure, timber windows and doors for clients around the UK. Our products are at the higher end of the market and we want to ensure quality is incorporated into every aspect of what we do and that includes the hardware.

“We were asked to come in and help a building firm on a large project which involved the creation of a lot of French door sets and were introduced to the new Solo™ Double Rebate locking system,” said Mark.

“It’s a great product and has brought some real benefits for us, the main one being that it is easy to fit on the new block and increases the quality of the finished product. In fact such has been their positive impact, that we are now using the locking system on all of our French doors,” he added.
