Turning your Bifold Door Nightmare into a Dream Come True

9th September 2019

Have you ever found yourself saying “Timber bifolds are a nightmare – there’s too much to go wrong!”?

We’re here to turn your bifold door nightmare into a dream come true.

View the video below to see how:

Typical issues we’ve heard joiners have when making bifold doors (but don’t worry, we’ve got solutions for you):

  • Doors swelling
  • Doors keep dropping because grub screw is lost
  • Not sure what fixing to so may not be able to use a top hung system
  • How to lock the doors securely

Talk to us – we’ve sorted these issues for many joiners already.

Doors Swelling

One door swelling can be one thing but what do you do when multiple doors in a bifold set start to swell? We’ve incorporated allowances for significant swelling into the keeps and the hangers to overcome this issue.

Doors keep dropping because grub screw is lost

In many bifold systems the doors can often drop. This is usually because the little fixing/locking grub screw has come loose and dropped out, resulting in an expensive call back to site. We’ve eliminated that problem now with the new ‘R-Loc’.

The ‘R-Loc’ is a clever ratchet adjustment system which locks itself off at every half turn. This means the doors cannot drop because the R-Loc has to be manually released to lower the doors.

Not sure what you’re fixing to so may not be able to use a top hung system

We now have a range of top hung and bottom rolling bifold door options available. So if you’ve no overhead support to hang your doors from then Rolkär – our bottom rolling bifold door system – will work perfectly for you.

Our CoFold and Flugel Top Hung Bifold Door Systems share many of the same components with our Rolkär Bottom Rolling Bifold Door System so it’s easier to switch your systems over.

How to lock the doors securely

There’s a myth that you should use a hook lock on a bifold door. This only causes more issues because if the doors shrink the hook will get caught on the back of the keep.

We recommend using the ML60 Thunderbolt Twin Tapered Multipoint Door Lock with the MK9 extended striker plate keep to save damaging the frame.

Need a bifold door option to meet Part Q?

CoFold Folding Door System, when used in conjunction with our multipoint lock, has been tested to PAS24 to meet Document Q.

What’s more, it’s all stainless steel bifold door hardware so whether you’re fitting the components to acidic timber or installing in a corrosive environment – such as a coastal area, by a swimming pool or in the city – you’ve no issue with corroding hardware.

To ensure your next Bifold Door project is a dream come true, not a nightmare, use one of Coastal’s Bifold Door Systems:
