Tritus Window System achieves Part Q Approval

Tritus Part Q Window Test

Our highly successful programme to help joinery firms across the UK meet the PartQ standards has taken another step forward with the successful testing and certification of our Tritus Window System.

But what makes a successful PartQ window and just what does it have to stand up to in a full PAS24 PartQ test?

The test involves the window being tested over 5 categories (Security Requirements of PAS24:2012):

  1. Infill Mechanical Load Test
  2. Mechanical Load Test
  3. Infill Manual Test
  4. Manipulation Test
  5. Manual Attack

Jump the Q with Coastal

Jump the Q

It’s been 18 months since we first launched our Part Q initiative helping the door and window industry meet new Building Regulations and in that time have helped joinery firms across England meet the PAS24 standards.

Our Part Q initiative - has been designed to take the pressure away from joinery firms and has helped scores of them offer their customers a range of PAS24 compliant doors and windows without the huge time and financial burdens.

It’s not just us talking about the benefits of our Part Q initiative. Iain McIlwee of the British Woodworking Federation writes:

Part Q Quote
“ The team at Coastal Group are to be applauded for taking such a proactive approach to helping our small and medium sized joinery companies meet their Part Q responsibilities. Part Q created a unique challenge for the timber door and window manufacturing sector, but through prescriptive methods of compliance that the BWF has developed and companies such as Coastal rallying to provide cascadable test evidence, it has not been as disruptive as it could have been.”

Part Q goes from STRENGTH to STRENGTH at Coastal

PartQ 1 year on Blog

It’s been almost a year since we launched our groundbreaking Part Q compliance system and in that time not only has the number of products we offer under it grown, but so too has the number of firms benefitting from it.

BSI Assurance Mark Template RGBUKAS logoWe created the Part Q compliance system to enable joinery firms to use our own generic Part Q certified products to manufacture officially UKAS tested and certified doors and windows in line with PAS24 without having to pay to have their own windows and doors tested.

One year on and the Part Q Regulation is set to experience further changes with increasing numbers of specifications coming through that will demand Part Q, affecting the market even more.

We have been delighted with the initial response we have had with the growing numbers of firms signing up to our Part Q support. We asked some of those firms what benefits they were finding from using our Part Q system.

The top 4 answers were resounding:

Cost

1 – Cost Saving

– joinery firms highlighted the significant cost saving made by using our PartQ Compliance System

Time

2 – Time Saving

– by using the system time was being saved as a result of having all the sections and hardware available to hand

Quality

3 – Quality

– By working with us, joinery firms said they liked the confidence of knowing they are manufacturing a quality door/ window for their customers

WorkFlow

4 – Work flow

– By using our system, joiners said it means they had the ability to continue working in all construction requirements (new build/ renovation/ barn conversions) by complying to the Part Q regulations.

Not only are we delighted with this feedback but we are once again expanding the breadth of products covered by our Part Q system.

New products being tested by us include the Tritus Secure, Stormproof section and ML3120 lock, which will be announced as soon as they have completed testing.

“Part Q has gone down brilliantly with our customers and we are absolutely delighted. Creating it in the first place was a reflection of our approach as a company. We are not just a supplier of products. We like to partner with our customers, providing them with a combination of technical knowledge and support, leading solutions and market leading products. The Part Q Regulations have had a major impact on the industry and we were determined to enable joinery firms to continue manufacturing and supplying quality timber doors and windows in line with Part Q,” says Coastal MD Loren Jenner.

Joining the CoFold will be the launch of the BiFold Bottom Rolling system. Manufactured from Marine Grade 316 stainless steel components, developed in conjunction with PC Henderson. Key benefits of the new system over other products in the market is that it is British made and the track is hidden under the door rather than existing systems which are seen when the door is closed.

Coastal’s ground-breaking Part Q compliance system enables firms to use the company’s own generic Part Q certified products to manufacture officially UKAS tested and certified doors and windows in line with PAS24 without having to pay to have their own windows and doors tested.

According to Coastal Director Loren Jenner the addition of the double doors to the Part Q Pas 24 product portfolio adds greater variety for the trade.

Coastal Group builds on the success of its Part Q Compliance system with Accoya door PAS24 Certification

PAS24-Accya-DoorLeading external timber door and window hardware specialist Coastal Group, has extended its highly popular Part Q Compliance system with news that it has achieved PAS24 certification on a door manufactured from the highly popular lower density Accoya, a development the company believes is an industry-first.

Coastal’s ground-breaking Part Q compliance system enables firms to use the company’s own generic Part Q certified products to manufacture officially UKAS tested and certified doors and windows in line with PAS24 without having to pay to have their own windows and doors tested.

Customer Focus

The family-run business, which supplies a wide range of joinery hardware solutions for the trade right across the UK and Europe, backed up by a range of technical and practical support, says the Part Q system was developed as part of its dedicated customer support focus.

Despite only being launched at the start of the year, Coastal Director Loren Jenner said the Part Q system was already proving very popular in the trade, with the development of the certification of the Accoya door a major development.

“We are absolutely delighted that we have achieved certificartion on our Accoya door design – which to our knowledge is an industry first. For the trade, it means there is now a PAS24 certified door with a timber density below 600. When you combine this with the popularity of Accoya given its performance benefits, we believe this is extremely positive for the industry,” said Loren.

“As a business – a key area of our growth and reputation has been built on not only providing the latest hardware solutions but combining that with friendly and effective support – both technical and practical – which in turn helps our customers deliver an enhanced service to theirs. What was evident was that for many companies, PartQ, whilst beneficial from a security perspective, was set to cause major headaches for smaller manufacturers. We saw this issue as something we could really lend support with and make the whole process much simpler for those who didn’t want to face the rigours of getting their own products tested,” said Loren.

Getting Started

Anyone wanting to use the Part Q certification system simply needs to go through a straight forward four step application process which can be found on the Coastal website – www.coastal-group.com/PartQApplication – and pay a one off £79 charge per product. Once approved customers are provided with everything they need to be Part Q compliant including a Compliance Guide Manual, a certificate per product type and window stickers enabling building inspectors to quickly and effectIvely see that the windows and doors supplied are Part Q compliant.

Part Q Compliance made simple with new system from Coastal

Part Q certification through Coastal
A new system to help timber window and door manufacturers ensure they meet Part Q compliance has been launched by leading external timber door and window hardware specialist the Coastal Group.

Having come into force in October 2015, Part Q makes it mandatory for windows and doorsets in new builds to be manufactured to a design that has been shown by test to meet the security requirements of PAS 24:2012.

Ground-Breaking

Now Coastal has launched its ground-breaking Part Q compliance system enabling firms to use Coastal’s own generic Part Q certified products to manufacture officially UKAS tested and certified doors and windows in line with PAS24 without having to pay to have their own windows and doors tested.

Developed as part of its dedicated customer support focus, Coastal Director Loren Jenner said the launch of the system was designed to help firms save thousands by undertaking the Part Q compliance testing and certification on their behalf, enabling the testing evidence to be cascaded down to its customers.

This includes a Compliance Guide Manual, provision of a certificate per product type and window stickers to enable building inspectors to quickly and effectIvely see that the windows and doors supplied are Part Q compliant.

Saving Thousands in Certification Fees

“Part Q has been a hot topic of debate across the industry and discussions with our customers highlighted they would have to pay thousands for their own products to be certified which is a massive and potentially crippling financial burden for them to face.

“The beauty of our Part Q system is that it lifts that financial and administrative pressure, enabling firms to manufacture Part Q compliant windows and doors using our certification scheme. By working to the sections and components set out in our Compliance Guide Manual for each product, customers will ensure they are creating Part Q compliant products without having to pay thousands,” said Loren.

Whats Involved?

“Anyone wanting to use the Part Q certification system simply needs to go through a straightforward four step application process with us, pay the one off £79 charge per product and that’s it. Once approved we provide them with everything they need to be Part Q compliant. We have only just launched the scheme but already there has been a great deal of interest ,” he added.

Initially launched with certification for two window designs – a high performance flush side hung window and flush top hung window – Coastal is adding further designs to the system including further window designs and a range of doors.
