You need to know what your letter plate is made from. A cheap chrome plated letter plate will rust, become pitted and corrode in no time.

Many old-fashioned letter boxes have a flap on the outside and one on the inside; with nothing in between but air.

Instead, choose a letter plate that is sleeved. This creates a protective barrier between the elements (including would-be burglars) and the home.
