Part Q

Coastal's Document Q Approval Scheme

Coastal's Document Q Approval Scheme  -Making Part Q Certification Easy For You.

If you supply external doors and windows to new build, renovation or refurbishment projects which require planning permission then you need to comply with Part Q.

Part Q are new Building Regulations which were brought into force on 1st October 2015. It affects any doors and windows on the ground floor and any accessible doors and windows on the first floor or on any balconies or windows which are accessible from flat or gently sloping roofs up to 3.5m above ground level.

Achieving Part Q Certification for your doors and windows can be very expensive and time consuming, but not when you use Coastal's Part Q Scheme.

Our ground-breaking Part Q compliance system enables you to use our own generic Part Q certified products to manufacture officially UKAS tested and certified doors and windows in line with PAS24 without you having to pay to have your own doors and windows tested.

View the video to see how we can help you then follow the Four Easy Stages to Certification as set out below. If you would like to discuss your requirements with our Part Q Experts simply complete the Call Back Form on the relevant tab below and we will soon be in touch.

Stage 1

To use our test data to manufacture doors and windows which meet Part Q, download or request a Compliance Application Form (CAF ) for each product type you wish to produce. To make it easy for you, we have pre-filled forms available for you to download from the 'Approved Part Q Doors and Windows' tab above.

Stage 2

Once we receive your completed forms back the details will be uploaded onto our Part Q Central Database and an invoice raised for the one-off set-up fee. The set-up fee is £129 per product type for doors and £79 per product type for windows. Each product type has its own test number. This set-up fee will be payable in advance, and not able to be added to a credit account.

Stage 3

Your personalised Cascaded Test Certificate (CTC ) and Glass Stickers for each product type you have completed forms for will be issued following full payment of the set-up fee. Both the certificate and the stickers are a powerful visual confirmation of Part Q compliance for Building Control to see. The certificates are valid for 2 years from point of issue, after which time compliance with correct hardware will be reviewed and certificates re-issued.

Stage 4

And that's you ready to go! Just ensure you keep copies of our delivery notes or invoices as traceable proof for Building Control that you are using the components as set out in the Compliance Guide Manual (CGM). The product codes on all Coastal documentation is linked back to the official UKAS testing document so no product deviation is permitted.

Approved
Document Q

(Mandatory)

Will you be affected by the requirements of Approved Document Q...

From October 2015, Approved Document Q will make it mandatory for windows and doorsets to be manufactured to a design that has been shown by test to meet the security requirements of PAS 24:2012

This is a requirement for new dwellings.

It is possible to casade the data for this assuming that the window/door installed, including all hardware, is identical to that tested.

PAS 24:2012
Testing

Including BS 6375
Parts 1, 2 & 3

Do you need more than just the Security requirements of Approved Document Q..?

Document Q only requires testing against the Security elements of PAS 24: 2012

Your Client or Project Specification may require a full suite of PAS 24: 2012 Testing, including those elements as required by BS 6375 Parts 1, 2 & 3.

Part 1: Classification for weathertightness and guidance on selection and specification.

Part 2: Classification for operation and strength characteristics and guidance on selection and specification.

Part 3: Classification for additional performance characteristics and guidance on selection and specification.

Secured
By Design

(Voluntary)

Do you need to be a member of Secured by Design..?

SBD is a voluntary initiative run by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). It requires a fabricator to demonstrate that they can produce windows and doors that comply with the requirements of PAS 24, BS 6375-1, BS 6375-2 and BS6375-3. It also requires the involvement of a Certification Body to certify the product, part of which involves a Factory Production Control audit. Once certified, the fabricator can then apply to SBD to become a member.

• Requires ITT
(which may be cascaded)

• Requires annual testing
(covering complete range over 3 year cycle)

• Required annual FPC audits

Approved Document Q: Security - Dwellings

1 What is Document Q?

Approved document Q gives practical guidance about how to meet the security requirements of the Building Regulations 2010 for England.

2 Where Can I Download a Free Copy of document Q??

Here: View PDF

3 When will I have to comply?

Approved document Q of the Building Regulations 2010 was published in March 2015 and will take effect from 1st October 2015. It does not apply to work started before 1st October 2015, or to work subject to a building notice, full plans application or initial notice submitted before that date provided the work is started on site before 1st October 2016.

By 1st October 2016 all accessible doors and windows supplied to new build properties will have to be proven to be secure by testing to PAS 24:2012 or other means.

4 Where do these building regulations apply?

Approved Document Q gives compliance with the Building Regulations for building work carried out in England. It applies to dwellings that are new or formed by a material change of use.

5 What products do these building regulations apply to?

Approved Document Q applies to 'easily accessible' doors and windows that provide access into the dwelling from outside, access into parts of the building containing flats from outside (i.e. communal entrance doors), or access into a flat from common parts of the building (i.e. flat entrance doors).

Easily accessible doors are those that are within 2 metres vertically of an accessible level surface. Easily accessible windows are those that are within 2 metres vertically of a flat or slopping roof (up to 30 degrees) within 3.4 metres of ground level.

Secure doorsets and window tested to PAS 24:2012 will meet the requirements. Any doorset that is partof a Secured by Design approved third party accreditation scheme to PAS 24 or STS202 BR2 will also meet the requirements.

Main doors for dwellings should have means of seeing callers such as clear glass, a door viewer or a window next to the door. The door should be fitted with a door chain or door limiter.

6 Who is responsible for compliance?
