Durodeen Glazing Bead Accelerates Production Of Timber Windows and Doors

Published on April 17th, 2023

Using Coastal’s innovative Durodeen glazing bead in joinery manufacturing allows a high-quality look to be achieved on timber windows and doors whilst saving valuable production time and making the process much simpler.

Machining beads can pose several potential headaches for your joinery process, including:

  • Time consuming and fiddly work, planning sections to size, scribing each end and running through the spindle moulder.
  • Often requires skilled staffing, with a skill shortage in the industry this can cause problems with consistency.
  • Beading is often the first thing to rot on your timber window, exposed to weathering.
  • Timber ‘breakout’ can often occur on the back of the moulding when end scribing.

Coastal’s solution for timber beading tackles these common workshop problems, getting regular feedback from customers on Durodeen’s impact being like an “extra person” in your workshop.

Five days work in a day using Durodeen

In a recent project, manufacturers of the highest quality bespoke timber products, RJ Joinery worked on gothic style windows and french doors made from accoya.

Due to the scale of the project, and with their already busy workshop, RJ Joinery were looking for an efficient solution that would deliver a look of the highest quality in the finished product with minimal manufacturing time.

Coastal’s Durodeen glazing beads were selected to help RJ Joinery to craft the beautiful arch shaped window detailing. Durodeen’s durable properties allowed easy bending which can typically present a challenge when using timber or alternative composite beading solutions.

The Durodeen pre-machined Ovolo style astragal glazing bar also saved significant time in manufacturing and assembly, as Rob comments below:

“On this project alone Durodeen allowed us to achieve in just one day what previously would have taken us five! We love Durodeen and have ordered more since to hold in stock”.

You can view the stunning finished project images below, beautifully partnered with our Duratique CO7300 Black Antique Curly Tail Handle and suited CO8477 Curly Tail Window Handle.

We have a range of stock of Glazing Bead profiles available, as well as the capability to offer bespoke profiles to suit your window and door design.
