High street retailer with a rich Cornish heritage opts for Coastal Hardware

One of the nation’s favourite clothing and lifestyle retailers - Seasalt – which started life in West Cornwall is opting for high performance door hardware from another Cornish company on its growing number of nationwide shops.

The family business, which started life in 1981, has grown significantly thanks to its coastal-inspired clothing, footwear and homeware products. To keep up with demand, Seasalt now has over 40 shops in the UK spanning from the Isles of Scilly to Morpeth in the North East.

To make sure their new premises are fully protected against everything the weather can throw at them, Seasalt is now specifying the blu™ range of door hardware when it opens a new outlet.

Also based in Cornwall, the blu™ range of hardware was selected due to the combination of high performance and contemporary styling. Manufactured from 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel the handles are corrosion-resistant and extremely durable.

“As Seasalt it’s important that every customer has the best possible experience, and that starts with the styling of our shop fronts when it comes to our high street presence,” said Seasalt Properties Director, Edward Jeffery.

“With many of our shops in seaside towns, the effects of the weather, including corrosion, can be an issue, which is why the new bluTM range was chosen.

“The appeal of the styling combined with the fact that every product is manufactured using corrosion-resistant 316 Marine Grade stainless steel means it is fit for purpose with the added benefit of a lifetime guarantee,” added Mr Jeffery.

Seasalt has opted for the blu™ range of pull handles

Coastal Group's Managing Director, Loren Jenner, is delighted. “Seasalt is a highly respected nationwide retailer which has built a hugely successful business from here in Cornwall based on style and quality. We are really pleased that, as a fellow Cornish company, our pull handles are now appearing on their growing number of new retail outlets.”

‘Quality Before Economy’ The Winning Philosophy For Coastal Customer

Coastal recently caught up with a valued customer who shared some insightful principles behind why Coastal Group fit so well with his product offering.

After 16 years in the timber windows and doors business running Authentic Timber Windows Ltd, their Director, Stephen, said there are only two things you must maintain to be successful:

  1. To earn and give respect and decency to your colleagues and customers; and…
  2. To always put “quality” before “economy”.

He said these are the sole reasons for their company’s success and are also the same reasons why they use Coastal’s products on their Front Entrance Doors

“The benefits and domino effect of using quality products is endless. From our Integrity to our customers Safety, it is priceless. From the durability and lifetime guarantee of the BLU range of door and window hardware to the high-quality security features of the Winkhaus multipoint locks.” Comments Stephen “We heard of several attempts of burglars breaking into our doors, but as they were quietly armed with Coastal’s products, not one of the burglars succeeded!”

BLU Door Hardware withstands the Northumberland weather

When joiner Neil Blakeburn of Ochiltree Bespoke Joinery needed a new front door he knew he was going to have to careful with his choice of hardware for it. Living in Northumberland meant the door hardware would have to be ‘fit for purpose’ in coping with the severe weather and environment.

As Neil said “I was looking for the highest quality ironmongery that would manage the harsh Northumberland weather in the winter. Using Accoya as the timber for the door, 'BLU' was the only choice as it combined aesthetics, performance and endurance.

It gave me peace of mind knowing that BLU ironmongery is made from a high grade 316 stainless steel. This meant the hardware would not only be able to withstand the acidic timber but also the corrosive atmosphere associated with Northumberland. I wanted hardware on my new door which was going to stay looking good for many years to come.

Coastal also supplied the Winkhaus heritage lock. I wanted this lock as it not only gives the door the security of a high-performance multipoint lock, but also keeps the tradition of most houses in our area by giving the look of the traditional Yale Nightlatch lock.”

BLU Regent Handles fit perfectly with the luxurious ambience of Carbis Bay Hotel

David Salisbury, manufacturer of top of the range hardwood glazed extensions, had the pleasure of completing the design and installation of a bespoke, premium quality orangery at the award-winning Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate, the luxury resort near St Ives in Cornwall which was chosen to host this year’s G7 Summit.

The existing conservatory, offering panoramic ocean views, needed replacing to bring it up to the superior specification of the rest of the estate. Alongside some much-needed aesthetic enhancements, the primary requirement of the new build was to create a more comfortable indoor environment; the existing uPVC extension was plagued with temperature issues consistent with extensions of a certain age.

As well as being a high-profile project, a tight turnaround was needed to get the estate ready for the G7 Summit. With modern glazing technologies and joinery techniques, bespoke wooden orangeries are designed for year-round enjoyment. Having been popular in residential settings for years, they are becoming increasingly prevalent in commercial applications, not least in the luxury hotel sector.

For this project, it was important to retain as much glazing content as possible. The previous conservatory provided diners with a wonderful panorama of the Atlantic Ocean and ensuring these views remained was essential. An orangery, with its perimeter flat roof and feature roof lanterns, was chosen to replace the previous conservatory, with its fully glazed roof. This more flexible type of extension better allows for all the features required for modern living to be incorporated, whilst still maximising on the views.

To complement the orangery, Coastal’s Regent Door Handle and Regent Window Handle were specified from their BLU Range of 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel Hardware. The classic styling of the BLU Regent Handles fitted perfectly with the luxurious ambience of the hotel. And with The Carbis Bay Estate situated right on the coast, fitting hardware made from 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel to the orangery was an absolute must. Salt air is extremely corrosive and harmful to hardware and studies have shown 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel to be the best metal to withstand this corrosion. The Regent Door and Window Handles ticked that box as well, being made from solid 316 Stainless Steel they are well able to withstand the corrosive salt air.

David Salisbury completed the new orangery on time and on budget and ready to welcome G7 summit attendees, which took place from 11-13 June, 2021.

David Salisbury has been designing, manufacturing, and installing top of the range hardwood conservatories, garden rooms and orangeries for over 35 years.

Based in Somerset, the company caters to both commercial and residential projects, demonstrating unrivalled technical innovation as well as a commitment to excellence in customer service.
